Majority of old government institutions still have asbestos roofing despite WHO warnings

4th February, 2018

A majority of old government institutions in the country still have asbestos roofing even as the World Health Organization warns that this kind of roofing can cause cancer.Efforts to replace them with the alternative roofing material have proved costly hence exposing students and workers at these institutions to the dangers associated with asbestos. Speaking during a graduation ceremony at Thogoto teachers college,  the board members said they have been looking for funds to enable them to change the roofing in vain. The board has requested the central government to budget for the same in the coming financial year.
