Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho meets Raila Odinga to craft another strategy

14th March, 2016

Now to that other story that is also making headlines at this hour. Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who is at the center of a gun standoff with the government, met his party Raila Odinga here in Nairobi a short while ago. The two are understood to have discussed the unfolding drama in which the government accuses Joho of refusing to hand over his firearm. By this morning the government was yet to surrender the said gun in spite of a government ultimatum. Legal experts however say Joho has up to 14 days to comply with any such directive. On Saturday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery warned that Joho would be arrested if he failed to surrender his weapon; Chief Firearms licensing Officer Samuel Kimaru had asked him to surrender a rifle and two pistols to Mombasa police declaring him unfit to hold firearms.
