Construction Code; Ministry of lands to carry out audit on houses

The ministry of lands and housing has announced it will be implementing the building maintenance policy as it seeks to govern the standards used in construction. The ministry through the national construction authority will carry out five year audits on buildings and houses, to ensure they are structurally sound and well maintained. This comes amid concerns that constructors and developers have at times cut corners to deliver buildings. Building owners will also have to adhere to strict maintenance codes, or risk being penalised. The insits that both the government and the private sector players should embrace a maintain ace culture for both public buildings and residential houses. At the same time the ministry has reviewed the building code with a view of updating the laws governing the sector. The last review of the building code was made in 1968.
