IDP's in Naivasha threaten to move and set up their tents in state house

14th January, 2016

Over 100 internally displaced persons from Naivasha have threatened to walk to Nairobi’s state house to seek audience with president Uhuru Kenyatta over what they term as prolonged neglect of their plight by the national government. The IDPs insist that they are yet to be resettled years after the 2007-2008 post-election violence. The integrated IDPS claim that promises made to them by government through the ministry of planning and devolution have never been upheld. The IDPs blocked the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in demonstrations threatening to walk to Nairobi to demand action from the jubilee government. A standoff between police and the demonstrators lasted hours causing a major traffic snarl up along the busy highway.
