Former finance minister Charles Okemo loses extradition challenge

Former finance minister Chris Okemo and former Kenya power and lighting company boss Samuel Gichuru and have lost a bid to stop extradition proceedings they are facing over money laundering. Justice Isaac Lenaola has dismissed an urgent petition by the duo seeking to have the proceedings declared a nullity over breach of their constitutional rights instead, justice Lenaola affirmed the extradition proceedings facing the two saying the court did not find “any violation of their constitutional rights”. The court held that issues contested by Gichuru and Owill be effectively resolved by the magistrate’s court. Okemo and gichuru and are seeking to restrain the state from commencing any extradition proceedings against them or authorizing their arrest on the basis of the charges proposed by the island of jersey.
