Disillusionment growing in Uganda’s ruling part NRM ahead of election next year

27th October, 2015

Uganda holds parliamentary and presidential elections in february or march next year and the political temperature is already rising. President Yoweri Museveni has led Uganda since 1986 and is widely expected to win another five-year term. Analysts however say disillusionment is growing in the ruling National Resistance Movement because of corruption and failing public services. The opposition regularly complains of vote fraud, an accusation dismissed by the government. Opposition presidential candidate Kizza Besigye was arrested earlier this month as he was headed for a rally in what his supporters call an escalating crackdown.
