CNN African Journalist of the year Joseph Mathenge grew up at the SOS children’s home

Kenya was one of the first African countries to establish the SOS children’s homes. Founded in 1971, the SOS homes have provided a safe haven and upbringing for thousands of children some of whom have risen to positions of responsibility in various sectors of the society.
