Residents of Taita Taveta County under threat of starvation due to lack of rainfall

23rd March, 2015

Residents of Taita Taveta County are under threat of starvation following a long-term lack of rainfall in the area. Voi River which has for a long time been the source of water in the area has now dried up. Farmers in the area have decried the situation saying that there is hardly any water for irrigation, resulting in poor harvest and food insecurity. Livestock have also been affected due to lack of grass for grazing. The county government has been distributing relief food to the residents who are however calling for long-term solutions to the problem.
