Bar owners in Nyeri oppose new levies introduced by the county government
3rd February, 2015
Bar owners in Nyeri are up against what they term as criminalization of their business by the Nyeri county government. The association that has 300 registered members says the levies slapped on them are ridiculously high. Their representative says in 2010 they were paying a levy of just 4,000 which has shot up to an amount of 80,000 shillings this year. They have decried the lack of public participation in the decision to revise the levies upwards. The Nyeri high court has however issued an order directing the county government to stop charging the said levies until the matter is heard and determined.
