Maize farmers in Tana River County fail to sell their bumper harvest

Thousands of maize farmers in Tana River county are frustrated as they have not been able to sell their bountiful harvest for months. The farmers who are under the Bura irrigation scheme had a bumper harvest five months ago and are now forced to watch as the maize rot for lack of market. They blame the Tana River county government, saying it promised to buy the maize from them, making the farmers invest even more. But now they say the county has turned their back on them.
