Primary Schools girls in Webuye benefit from a year-long provision of sanitary pads

12th November, 2014

Over 5000 girls in primary schools in Webuye west constituency, Bungoma County will benefit from a year-long provision of sanitary pads; after a group of businessmen kicked off the initiative today. For many of the adolescent girls in the informal settlement, poverty has meant sanitary towels are for them, too costly. Most of the girls end up not going to school when they are on their monthly period. Many use newspapers, plastic bags and leaves as a substitute. The school heads said the gesture would enhance education standards and improve the ranking of the district that has been getting poor exam results over the years.
