The methanol was intercepted as it was being transported from Loitoktok to Voi when police laid an ambush following a tip from members of the public. Two people, a driver and conductor of the lorry that was transporting the methanol were arrested by police. The methanol was loaded in 40 drums of 250 liters each. Police also managed to recover 40 bags of maize which were used to conceal the drums of methanol
