Health services paralyzed in Uasin Gishu County as nurses go on strike

Health services were paralyzed at the Uasin Gishu District Hospital as the Kenya National Union of Nurses members demonstrated to the health facility after failing to get audience from the area governor. Patients who were being attended to by a few medics that the county had employed in December 2013 to mitigate a previous strike were left stranded after their colleagues under the nurses’ union invaded the hospital facility branding them traitors. KNUN branch chairman Simon Kibii and Secretary General John Bii had earlier led their union members to demonstrate in the streets as the strike entered day 8 today. He said they are not going to return to work until the county government clears all arrears owed to their members “They know very well we are on strike and it is their choice to back us or stay, we cannot force anybody to join us but they should know that this union will one day benefit them,” he said.
