Kajiado residents hold peaceful demonstration protesting cancellation of police recruitment

28th August, 2014

Residents of Kajiado town held a peaceful demonstration to protest against the recent cancellation of the police recruits by the national police service commission. according to some of the recruits who were affected by the cancellation, unnamed persons with personal interests are to blame for putting a hold on their dream of joining the police force. They allege the cancellation targeted mainly the rural areas, without a proper explanation of the criteria used to identify the areas that were involved in corruption during the recruitment exercise. Some of the victims say they had been trying their luck for the last five years and thought their time of breakthrough had come, only to be thwarted at the last minute. They insisted they were not in any way involved in corrupt dealings and therefore did not deserve to face the consequence imposed on them.
