Striking health workers march to Afya House to seek audience with the health CS James Macharia

28, Aug 2014

Striking doctors and other health workers this morning paralyzed operation along Ngong Road and Upper Hill area here in Nairobi as they marched to Afya House to seek audience with Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia. They have refused to resume work until all their grievances, including payment of their July salaries, are met. Operations at Kenyatta National Hospital is currently grounded. The strike is a protest against the devolution of health services from the auspices of central government to the county administrations. Doctors and nurses also demand a national health commission be established to manage the devolution process.
