Mombasa county leaders in a crisis meeting following increasing attacks in the Coast region

21st July, 2014

Mombasa county security committee is currently holding a meeting with local leaders in the area to deliberate on the spate of attacks that have seen over 100 people lose their lives with many fleeing in fear of more attacks in the coastal region. The number of those who have died as a result of last night’s shooting in Likoni now stands at 3 while the number of those injured is six. This latest attack in Likoni that saw gunmen shoot indiscriminately at Soweto slums is just one of the many that have occurred in recent weeks. According to witnesses, the attackers opened fire in the residential area leaving many with gunshot wounds. The identity of the gunmen has not yet been established and area leaders are now accusing the security officials of being unable to handle the security situation in the country.
