Matatu operators racing against time to meet required safety standards before deadline.

31st March, 2014

Matatu operators are now racing against time to meet the required safety standards before the deadline. With just one day to go, public service vehicles began to line up at the kenya police inspection on nairobi's likoni road late last night. Since the inspection exercise began just over six thousand five hundred vehicles are reported to have been inspected. Over a hundred thousand others are yet to be inspected. With just a few hours left the matatu welfare society has moved to court seeking an extension of the deadline. The association chairman dickson mbugua has warned that nairobi could face a public transport crisis if the new road safety laws come into effect on april first as scheduled.
