More than 35 breast cancer survivors from meru, isiolo and tharaka nithi counties were issued with artificial breasts worth 700,000 shillings by the meru hospice and mercy steps a group from nyeri and kirinyaga counties.
The donation is aimed at helping breast cancer survivors cope with the stigmatization which comes with the removal of the breast by increasing their self-esteem. The group gets the artificial breasts from switzerland. Gladys mucee the program coordinator of meru hospice said the institution has catered for more than 4000 patients of different forms of cancer ever since it was established. She appealed to the community and especially the meru county government to assist in funding the hospice saying that as a charitable organization they do not have a donor and only rely on fund raising events.
