22nd August, 2013

And now motorists along Mombasa Road should be ready to pay their fines on the spot if arrested over traffic offences. The mobile vehicle inspection unit from Nairobi will be pitching tents around Athi River where they will inspect vehicles. The Mavoko law courts magistrate will be on standby to have those with offenses convicted or fined on the spot. During the launch of the newly-established vehicle inspection unit over 100 defective vehicles were impounded and the drivers convicted or fined on spot.drivers who had violated the traffic laws were slapped with heavy fines with most fined between 30,000-50,000 shillings. Those who were unable to raise the fine were taken directly to Athi River prison to begin serving their sentences. This according to the police will help reduce cases sent to court which take time to be dealt with. However in the process many passengers were stranded for hours.
