17 passengers from the grounded KQ 117 have arrived Nairobi

17 passengers from the grounded KQ 117 arrived in Nairobi this morning. A statement from Kenya Airways said that this group was uplifted on a flight from Amsterdam that had been diverted to Athens to collect cargo. The remaining passengers are expected to arrive in Nairobi at midnight, local time. KQ 117 was expected in the country this morning at 4.30. Kenya airways however reported that they were denied clearance by the Greece civil aviation which led to a last minute cancellation. 301 passengers were on board the flight, which was on its way to Nairobi on Saturday when one of the smoke sensors allegedly triggered a fire alarm. The pilot was then forced to make a diversion to Athens where an engineering team was sent to repair the aircraft. There have been conflicting reports on the safety and comfort of the passengers with most taking to social networking site twitter, complaining of lack of communication and near negligence from the airline.
