Malaba town in busia county was turned into a battleground as residents engaged the police in running battles following the killing of a 20 year old student for allegedly not wearing a mask. Irate residents blocked the malaba bungoma highway and lit bonfires on the road to protest the killing. Police were quick to claim that the young man was among youths pelting the police with stones during a crackdown on illicit brew.
