Nakuru town residents were treated to spectacular show of fireworks as the county government lit the Christmas tree along Moi Road. The residents could not hold back their excitement as they requested those in charge to keep the show going. It was a contrast to the gloom that has characterized the country for the past 10 months since the Covid 19 pandemic hit hard leaving a trail of deaths, ruined the economy and disrupted normal living. The fireworks lit the skies of the lakeside town in different colours giving the residents an opportunity to record the spectacular moment with their phones. Although security agencies tried to enforce social distancing during the event, the residents threw caution to the wind causing heavy traffic along the town's main street-Kenyatta Avenue. The county government in the past years has been lighting the Christmas tree a week to December 25 with no fun fare. Earlier on Deputy Governor Dr Eric Korir had led county officials in distribution food rations in Bondeni and Kivumbini slums. Dr Korir urges the residents to celebrate Christmas by sharing with the less fortunate citing the hard times many families are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over a hundred families and persons living with disability also received shopping vouchers worth Sh2,000 redeemable at a local supermarkets.
