Over the last few months, the average prices of smallholder teas have recorded a 40 percent increase at the auction, with the government terming this as a result of the minimum reserve price is put in place in July this year. According to Agriculture CS Peter Munya, the recorded increase is from an average of 1 dollar and 90 cents to 2 dollars 66 cents per kg from the sales of July and part of September 2021. This has increased tea revenue by 172 million shillings within a period of one month.
