Deputy President William Ruto who was leading campaigns in the Mt. Kenya region told off President Uhuru Kenyatta saying he should keep off the campaign trail as a statesman. Ruto and his allies in Mt. Kenya instead accused the president of sidelining him and blamed Uhuru's newfound allies for failing him during his second term. Ruto further told the president he was not his competitor and therefore allow his face-off with Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
