27th February, 2016

Voter registration exercise at Marura Primary school, situated in Nairobi’s Kariobangi north estate in Embakasi North constituency was suspended the whole of yesterday after a section of rowdy residents complained of suspicious importation of voters. Police at the nearby kariobangi police post confiscated two biometric voter registration kits from the clerk and kept them in safe custody. The independent electoral and boundaries commission manager in charge of investigations and prosecutions Chrispine Owiye says the commission has received a petition with a list of six hundred names and has launched investigations on a possible mass transfer of voters into the constituency. Meanwhile the public service cabinet secretary Sicilly Kariuki has defended plans by the ministry to use biometric registration system when enrolling youth in the ‘NYS jobs for youth’s program’
