Landmark ruling against Agha Khan Hospital sets precedence in Birth control cases
31st May, 2015
Five days ago, a landmark ruling was made in Kenya. The Aga khan hospital in Nairobi was ordered by the courts to fund the upbringing of a child who was conceived after a long-term contraceptive implant on her mother failed. The high court directed Aga khan university hospital family planning clinic to pay the woman sh4.3 million to cater for the unplanned child. It is a case that has provoked many questions including, how usual are cases of botched birth control? Why did this one stand out? Is it a case that now gives precedence to such cases?
