Hundreds remain homeless as nomadic pastrolists displace residents in Baringo County

28th February, 2015

Tension is rife in Baringo County as thousands remain homeless after being displaced from their homes by nomadic pastoralists believed to be from pokot east. The families mainly from Tugen community have for the last two months been forced to move to the areas of Kimalel and Muchongoi near kerio valley. A spot check by ktn on Friday indicates that around 20 primary and secondary schools in Baring County have been forced to close down as both teachers and pupils fear for their lives. The residents of Baringo also say their cattle have been stolen by rustlers with guns and they want the national and county government to intervene before the matters gets out of hand.
