Fish vendors in Naivasha plead with Uhuru to review curfew and lockdown orders

9th April, 2021

Fish vendors in Naivasha want the curfew and lockdown order reviewed claiming that it has led to a drastic drop in the fish prices in lake Naivasha by 50 percent. Demand for fish has gone down following the closure of hotels. Vendors around the beaches say fish worth thousands of shillings is going to waste, and has forced other vendors to close businesses. Wesley kimutai the chairman kamere landing beach fears that prices might dip further if the restriction is upheld. He pleads that the county government waives the monthly fees imposed on fishermen and traders. Fish traders say that the new restriction order has adverse effect, fish from this area was initially supplied beyond this region but has been made imposible since.
