Treasury CS Admits Misleading Kenyans on Sh5 Trillion Fund

4th March, 2026

Treasury CS John Mbadi under scrutiny after admitting to misleading Kenyans over Sh5 trillion infrastructure fund

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi is facing mounting pressure after admitting he misled Kenyans regarding the controversial Sh5 trillion National Infrastructure Fund.

In court documents recently filed at the Milimani High Court, the Treasury boss swore an affidavit acknowledging that earlier statements he made about the establishment of the fund were inaccurate.

The revelation follows his appearance before a joint sitting of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning on Public Debt and Privatisation, where he made declarations that have since been challenged as false, raising fresh questions about transparency and accountability in the management of public finances.
