Albert Ojwang's memorial service held at Ridgeways Baptist Church, Nairobi

2nd July, 2025

A solemn requiem mass was held at Ridgeways Baptist Church in Nairobi this morning for 31‑year‑old teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang, who tragically died in police custody on June 8. Mourners, including family, activists, friends, and members of the public, gathered to pay their respects, with emotional farewells echoing both inside and outside the church. Ojwang, arrested in Homa Bay over a social media post allegedly defaming a senior police officer, was transferred to Nairobi’s Central Police Station where authorities first claimed he died from self‑inflicted injuries. However, an autopsy revealed blunt‐force trauma, neck compression, and signs of manual strangulation—contradicting the official narrative.
