Petition filed to stop use of State House for partisan UDA activities

10th February, 2026

A constitutional petition has been filed at the High Court seeking a declaration that the use of State House for partisan political activities is unconstitutional.

The petitioner, lawyer Lempaa Suyianka, argues that public resources have been unlawfully deployed to advance the interests of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

As political affairs reporter Ian Keitany reports, the petition challenges the recent hosting of UDA meetings at State House, a move that has also drawn criticism from other legal experts.

The experts argue that the use of State House for party political activities was not envisaged by the framers of the Constitution and undermines the principle of separation between the State and partisan politics.
