New campaign to stop FGM

The Guardian's global media campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is running a road show to end the vice in West Pokot county.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the organisation, in collaboration with Kepsteno Rotwo (Let's abandon the knife) said a poster from anti-FGM art chosen from 300 entries from three girls' schools will be erected in major markets in the region.

"We will take to the road this weekend to launch the posters at major market sites in the area. It will be the first event of its kind on such a scale in Kenya to eradicate FGM," the statement reads in part.

Kepsteno Rotwo's project manager Domtila Chesang said seven large frames have been constructed and will be erected in the most remote areas of Pokot.

The first launch, she said, took place in Lomut over the weekend. There are plans to take the campaign to Chesegon, Takaywa, Muino, Sigor, Ortum and Sarmich.
