Vihiga Queens on Friday got knocked out of the 2021 inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 4-0 to River Angels of Nigeria in the crucial Group B match played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

The Kenyan outfit went into the match needing a win to be sure of progressing to the semifinals but the Nigerians proved too strong after scoring four goals in the second half to deny the East Africans a chance of reaching the last four.

Vivian Ikechukwu scored a brace before Oluwadamilola Koku and Gift Monday sealed the win for the West Africans.

However, despite the heavy win, River Angels and Vihiga both failed to progress forward at the tournament in Egypt after finishing behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and ASFAR Women of Morocco.

Mamelodi Sundowns played out to a 0-0 draw with the Morrocan side to finish unbeaten and top of Group B with seven points followed by ASFAR with four points.

River Angels came third with three points and Vihiga last also with three points but with an inferior goal difference. Two teams from the two groups, Group A and B qualified directly to the semifinals.

In Group A, Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana and Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea sailed through the semi-finals as the host Wadi Degla, Egypt gracefully bid goodby to the tournament after their 2-2 draw against Hasaacas Ladies who were topping the Group A after winning all her games and had the assurance to book a place in the semis.
