Elites from the Maa community in Narok County have been challenged to support efforts to uplift poor standards of education in the region.
Narok County National Environmental and Management Authority boss Leonard Tampushi expressed concern over the severe shortage of textbooks and other reading materials in most of the learning institutions, citing that as one of the factors behind the poor performance in majority of the schools.
Tampushi said there was an urgent need to focus on the development of the infrastructure in several learning institutions, which he noted were still in deplorable condition, and called on the elites and local leaders to join hands to rectify the situation.

He said it was sad that besides the books shortage issue, some of the schools in the region were yet to establish libraries.
“Education is not the sole responsibility of the government but an all-inclusive venture that calls for joint partnership among key players to ensure better performance in our schools hence improved development and living standards among our people,” said Tampushi
He was speaking at Endoinyo Onkopit Secondary School in Kilgoris, where he launched a campaign dubbed ‘Books for Life’, which aims to stock school libraries with text books as part of a strategy to improve the reading culture among learners.
