ODM loses Kakamega MCA seat to KANU

Rashid Rocky Omwendo, the MCA for Nucleus Mumias North Ward in Kakamega County, has lost the seat.
Omwendo, who sought re-election on ODM ticket in the December 8, 2022 ward elections, came second with 1,502 votes behind Yassin Muchelule of KANU who got 1,525 votes.
Mohamed Abdi of the Amani National Congress (ANC) came third with 166 votes.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Yassin Sikolia came fourth with 79 votes.
Hassan Washiali of Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) emerged fifth with 11 votes.

The ward has 9,121 registered voters in its 17 polling centres, though very few turned out to vote on December 8.
ODM candidate Omwendo, who has been the area MCA since 2013, has conceded defeat to Muchelule of KANU.
MCA elections in Nucleus Mumias North Ward were postponed on August 8, 2022 after a candidate, Abdalla Kweyu, died in a road accident.
