Angella Okutoyi wins doubles title in W15 World Tennis Tour in Nairobi

Kenyan tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi on Saturday added another cap to her stellar rising career after winning the doubles title at the second round of the 2022 W15 World Tennis Tour in Nairobi.
Alongside her Indian partner Bhasin Smriti, the teenage duo defeated experienced top seeds Sharmada Balu of India and Sabastiani Leon of United States of America 6-3, 7-5 in an entertaining match which lasted one and a half hours.
Leading up to the finals, Okutoyi had all her focus fixed on atoning for her first-round exit in the Singles.
The Wimbledon Junior doubles champion was eliminated in singles by top-seeded Emily Seibold after losing 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) in the first round on Thursday.
This came after last week Okutoyi made history by becoming the first Kenyan player to reach the finals of an ITF World Tennis Tour Final when she succumbed to a final defeat in the first edition held last week.

Okutoyi and Bhasin blanked Reha Kipsang (Kenya) and Sonia Tuyishime (Rwanda) 6-0, 6-0, fourth seeds Emma Tothova (Slovakia)/Sevil Yuldasheva (Uzbekistan) 6-2, 6-4 and benefited from retirement by Alexandra Iordache (Romania) and Magdalena Stoilkovska (North Macedonia) on their way to the finals.
Last Sunda,y Okutoyi came short of writing another history on home soil after losing 6-3, 6-2 to top seed Emily Seibold in the final of the first leg of the W15 Nairobi World Tennis Tour at Karen Country Club in Nairobi.
