Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday evening joined Harambee Starlets in celebrations after Kenya ousted Cameroon in post-match penalties in the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Sonko congratulated the team for their victory and donated Sh250,000 to the players after they booked a second-round qualification date with Botswana.
He had joined Kenyan fans during the entire tense match which was attended by thousands of football fans at the Nyayo Stadium.
Cynthia Shilwatso who plays her club football in South Korea came off the bench to score in the 75th minute handing Kenya a historic 1-0 win. Her goal meant that the match ended in a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Starlets had lost to Cameroon in the first leg of the qualifies in Doula last week on Friday and needed to win or earn a draw which meant going to post-match penalties.
The team captain Ruth Ingosi saw her penalty saved, but Cynthia Shilwatso, Violet Nanjala, Mwanahalima Adam, and Sheryl Andiba all converted their penalty kicks handing Kenya the win.
"I'm very elated with the Harambee Starlets victory against Cameroon which took part in the last World Cup. I'm ready to support the team going forward with more incentives," said Sonko.
The former Nairobi Governor further promised to reward the team if they beat their next opponents and qualify for the continental championship.
