Government secures land to set up agriculture institute in Kericho

The government has secured 58 acres of land in Londiani, Kipkelion East, for the construction of School of Agriculture.

Speaking during site inspection, Kenya School of Agriculture Director Rosemary Nyamu, said at least Sh29 million has been allocated for the first phase of the project.

Nyamu revealed that once operational, the school will offer a range of agricultural courses aimed at equipping learners with modern skills and practices to boost food production.”

“The institution will be the first of its kind in Kericho County. It aligns with the national government's broader goal of revitalizing the agriculture sector as a key pillar for economic growth and food security,” she said.

Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot, who accompanied Nyamu, welcomed the initiative to establish the institution, saying it signifies the beginning of a transformative journey towards having a center of excellence in agricultural training and innovation.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the development of agricultural education in Kenya,” said Cherorot.

The ground-breaking is expected within two weeks, marking a major milestone in Kericho County’s education and agricultural development.

The project is expected to attract students from across the region and provide hands-on training in modern farming, agribusiness, and agricultural technology.

Construction of the Kenya School of Agriculture in Londiani is scheduled to start in two weeks.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Director of the Kenya School of Agriculture, contractor representatives, local leaders, and members of the community.

All parties pledged their commitment to timely execution and strict adherence to quality standards.
