Kericho herbalist denies killing foreign client

A 52-year-old herbalist denied killing her client in Eldoret.

Ann Mosop, who appeared before presiding Judge Eric Ogola on Thursday, denied killing Maketh Kuany chol, a South Sudanese national on October 23, 2021, at Kapsoya in Uasin Gishu County.

41-year-old Chol died in Eldoret after allegedly drinking a herbal concoction said to have been administered by the herbalist at her home in Kapsoya estate.

Chol was admitted to a private hospital in Eldoret in critical condition after he took the concoction with his wife.

The deceased, who lived in Australia, had travelled to visit the country before seeking the services of the herbalist who is known to his family.

Mosop took the plea after a mental assessment done at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital indicated that she was fit to stand trial.

Justice Ogola directed that the probation officers work on a report within two weeks before the court rules on bond terms.

The body was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

A postmortem conducted on the deceased at the MTRH revealed that he died of intoxication, with the report showing that the pathologist finding would undergo further investigations.

The court will rule on the bond application on December 15.
