Two dead, 11 injured in Bomet accident

Two people died and eleven others injured following an accident along Bomet-Sotik Highway.
The accident occurred after a matatu collided with a tractor near Sachangwan area.
Bomet Central Sub-county police commander Musa Omari Imamai said a passenger aboard the tractor died on the spot.
He said the 11 passengers aboard the matatu sustained injuries while the driver succumbed to injuries at Tenwek Mission Hospital.

The police commandant said all the passengers are admitted to the hospital. “All the passengers are still hospitalised, but are all out of danger,” he said.
Imamai said the preliminary investigation pointed at the tractor as the cause of the accident.
“The driver of the tractor who switched lanes without due caution, and he is likely to face charges,” said Imamai.
He said the body of the deceased was taken to Longisa Hospital Mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.
In another incident, a boda boda rider died along the same road after being hit by a Matatu in Sotik.
According to the police, the rider was trying to overtake when he lost control and was hit by the matatu.
None of the passengers in the matatu was injured during the incident.
Imamai said investigations into the accident are underway.
The police commandant appealed to road users plying the busy road to exercise caution.
"It only takes caution to avoid some of these accidents,” said Imamai.
