Police at Kabiyet test positive to corona

Kabiyet Police Station has been temporarily closed and over 50 police officers put on quarantine after one tested positive for Covid-19.

The officer, who is a driver and regularly takes remandees to prison, was on Friday tested with two detainees before delivering them to the cell as required.

The samples tested at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital were positive while the other two detainees were not infected.

Nandi County Commander Samson ole Kinne said the officer was taken to Nandi Hills isolation centre where he is receiving treatment. "We took the emergency initiative by subjecting the whole police station to screening, including those suspected to have come in contact with the victim," he noted.

 In Trans Nzoia, two nurses at the Kitale County Hospital tested positive after coming into contact with a health volunteer. 

However, officials from the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Kenya Union of Clinical Officers claimed two nurses and five clinical officers got infected with the virus.
