The Standard Group will support development initiatives to transform livelihoods of Turkana County residents.

Through its platforms, the media house will highlight issues that will assist unlock challenges and identify potentials to help boost economic development in the region. The collaboration will support positive achievements attained through devolution.

A team from The Standard Group led by Editor-in-Chief Ochieng Rapuro toured the county and held talks with top county officials in Lodwar.

They said the partnership will unlock potential that has not been exploited in key sectors such as agriculture and health in the vast county.

Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro said Turkana County will continue to partner with Standard Group's media platforms  such as The Standard, KTN News, Radio Maisha and Standard Digital in highlighting county news.

Mr Lotethiro added the collaboration will see the Group highlight the rich potential including the community’s culture during the upcoming Tobong’u Lore Cultural Festival.

The annual festival that brings together communities from the county, neighbouring counties and from neighbouring South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia, will kick off on August 14 in Lodwar.

“There is a lot to be covered in Turkana especially in the agriculture sector. We need to open up the region through Standard Group platforms so that we can achieve benefits of devolution,” said Mr Lotethiro.

Mr Rapuro said there are plans to set up an office in Turkana County to promote coverage of the county and neighbouring counties in Northern Kenya.

Rapuro said they will sustain the collaboration as one way of promoting devolution.
