A woman miscarried while being held at Rwanyambo Police Post in Nyandarua County, prompting the immediate interdiction of the officer in charge and a joint investigation by oversight bodies.
The National Police Service on Thursday, June 12, announced that the Internal Affairs Unit, working with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, has launched investigations to establish the circumstances of the incident.
"To ensure a swift, impartial and transparent investigation, the officer in charge of Rwanyambo Police Post has been interdicted with immediate effect," said National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
Nyaga noted that the incident was deeply unfortunate and assured the public of the service's full cooperation in the inquiry.

"The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to serving and protecting the public while upholding the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms," noted Nyaga.
He added that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
The police did not provide details about the woman's identity, the cause of the miscarriage or how long she had been in custody at the time of the incident.
