President Ruto calls for a different approach to femicide incidents

President William Ruto has challenged the National Defence University to focus on challenges driving femicide incidents in the country.

Speaking when he presided over the second graduation ceremony at the Defence University of Kenya in Lanet, Nakuru County, Ruto stated that the escalating cases of females being killed in Kenya are worrying and need a deeper understanding through proper research.

"What is the place of family, society, and religion in bringing up a morally upright generation? We want to understand what drives someone to commit femicide and where society has adopted a laid-back approach in all these. Where does all these leave our culture?" he asked.

At the same time, the Head of State urged the graduates to delve into the fake news issues, misuse of social media, and its effect on governance.

"There is an avalanche of information, because of different spaces of available information, it is much easier to inform, educate, and entertain, but equally it is much easier to misinform the public. These issues require intellectual interrogation to help us move forward as a country.

He also encouraged the graduands to serve Kenyans with courage, and patriotism and uphold the traditions of excellence, integrity, and service that define the institution.

Also present during the event was Defence Cabinet Secretary Sopian Tuya, her education counterpart Julius Ogamba, and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Charles Kahariri.
