Musalia Mudavadi quits ANC Party Leader role

Prime Cabinet Secretary appointee Musalia Mudavadi has quit his role as the Party Leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC).

This is after the National Assembly on Wednesday, October 26 approved his nomination to the Cabinet.

His resignation from ANC as Party Leader is in line with the constitutional requirement on the restriction on activities of State officers.

Article 77 (2) of the Kenyan Constitution says: "Any appointed State officer shall not hold office in a political party."

Following Mudavadi's exit, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has been picked as the Acting Party Leader of ANC.

The announcement was made in a press statement on Thursday, October 27 by ANC Secretary-General Simon Gikuru.

"The ANC Party wishes Mudavadi God's blessings in his service as Prime Cabinet Secretary and heartily welcomes Governor Isaa Timamy to his new role as Party Leader," said Gikuru.

Musalia Mudavadi will be sworn into office as Prime Cabinet Secretary on Thursday at State House, Nairobi.

Mudavadi established ANC Party in 2015 after leaving the United Democratic Forum Party (UDF).

The former Vice-President and Sabatia MP exited UDF with some 300 members and formed the new political outfit.
