Two arrested after officer dies in suspected botched abortion

Police have arrested two people in connection with the death of a policewoman who allegedly died while attempting to procure an abortion at a facility within Kawangware, Nairobi.
According to a police report seen by The Standard, the body of Winny Zippora Atoo, an officer attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit in Embakasi, was taken to the hospital around noon on Tuesday.
She is believed to have been transferred there from Kabiru Hospital in Kawangware.
Officers from Muthangari Police Station, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and a crime scene investigation team, responded to a call from police.
Upon arrival, they found Atoo's body in a pool of blood inside a vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been induced into labor, prompting her transfer to the hospital.
Authorities believe she died at around 10.00pm, hours before the transfer.
Police arrested a nurse at the facility and the driver involved in the transfer.
The body has been moved to City Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected as investigations continue.
