Uhuru convenes summit to review rising Covid-19 cases

President Uhuru Kenyatta (pictured) will on Friday, July 24, meet governors following the ballooning Covid-19 infections in recent days.

The session will among other things review the efficacy of the containment measures in place and review the impact of the phased easing of the restrictions, State House said in a statement.

During President Uhuru’s address on July 6 when the cessation of movement order in Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera counties was lifted, he urged Kenyans to exercise Covid- 19 prevention measures to contain the spread of the virus.

“Should the situation deteriorate and pose challenge to our health systems. We will have to revert back to the lock down. For the next 21 days, we will study the patterns of interactions and spread of disease, any trends that signal worsening of pandemic, we will have no choice but to return to lock down at zero option,” President Kenyatta warned.

14 days later, coronavirus cases have been rising rapidly across the country with a majority of the new infections being asymptomatic.

So far 44 out of 47 counties have recorded cases of coronavirus with the national tally surpassing 13,000 cases.

The summit is expected to also deliberate on the evolution of the disease and the medical models on how Covid-19 may propagate within our country over the months of August and September 2020.
