Police find explosive at Dusit, open road

An explosive was yesterday found inside the dusitD2 Nairobi, 14 Riverside Drive, the scene of Tuesday's terrorist attack that claimed at least 21 lives.

“We wish to inform the general public that bomb experts from the @DCI_Kenya are still combing the scene of the Dusit incident for any remaining explosives or booby traps that could have been left by the slain attackers,” said Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on his Twitter handle.

The IG explained that so far one explosive had been found and taken for detonation in a safe area. He said: “This is to caution members of the public not to panic should they hear a blast, since it will be a safe blast.”

Car towed

The car that was used by the terrorists was also towed from the scene of the attack at 2pm.

Local and international forensic experts dusted the car for more evidence.

Meanwhile, members of the public milling around the complex to catch a glimpse of what was left after the attack were not allowed near the hotel. The scene was only accessed by security personnel, who combed it for more clues.

The 14 Riverside Drive road, which had been closed on Tuesday after the attack, was yesterday opened for public use.

Students of the University of Nairobi that had been living in the Chiromo hostels also returned to the residences, though some said they were still traumatised by the Tuesday attacks.

At around 11am yesterday, Police Spokesman Charles Owino visited the dusitD2, but declined to grant the media an interview.
