In pictures: East African Safari Classic Rally through the lens

Rally drivers gave mixed reactions as the grueling East African Safari Classic rally came to an end today at the Ocean Sports Resort in Watamu, Kilifi County.

The drivers were all in agreement that the 2022 rally was the toughest in recent years.

According to the drivers and their crews, the nine days of rallying were met with twisty tracks, big brows and cambered corners.

However, the drivers experienced memorable scenes where they encountered wild animals along the way.

Kenya's Baldev Chager co-driven by Drew Sturrock said; “I am happy to have won the rally. It was an amazing drive."

"I want to thank my crew and the sponsors for contributing to my victory. This was a big boost as I prepare for the World Safari Rally in June," added Chager as he uncorked his champagne.

Second-placed Swedish team of Patrick Sandell co-driven by Henrik Bolinder said it was an exciting rally. “It was amazing driving all the way from Naivasha to Watamu. I encountered lovely people all the way," said Sandell who made his debut in the rally this year.

“I will go home with a lot of memories of Kenya and Africa as a whole."

Kenya's legendary Ian Duncan navigated by Anthony Neilsen who completed the list of the top three said it was a great event.

Belgium driver Remon Vos and his co-driver Stephane Prevot in a Porsche 911 sent the crowd in a burst of prolonged laughter after he said he take home unique memories.

“I will always remember the dust, friendly people and the cold Tusker beer," he said.

Standard Group PLC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Orlando Lyomu said the company will continue partnering with East African Safari Classic rally fraternity.
