When referee Amos Wanjala awarded Gor Mahia two penalties against Nairobi City Stars on Saturday, many were quick to vilify the club for relying on that to win matches.
Some fans even posted that the club has scored 70 percent of its goals from penalties. However, nothing can be further from the truth. The fact is Gor Mahia have only scored four penalties since the season started.
Compare this to the 34 goals they have scored and you will see that the club has one of the least penalties this season. May be before posting such accusations, the fans need to do their home-work.
Gor Mahia: Kudos to fans
Gor Mahia fans keep on rallying behind the team in their matches and this was evident when they hit City Stars at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.
It is a fact that the fans's support has played a major role in helping the club to be where it is and will continue to lift their performance.
On Saturday, the fans kept urging on the team and did not give up even when the goals were not forthcoming and this is how it ought to be.
With four matches to go before the season ends, the fans will need to come out even more and more importantly behave well before and after the matches.
NOT YET TIME TO PARTY
Gor Mahia are getting closer and closer to retaining the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title and after Saturday's huge win over City Stars the reality is almost here.
But despite the advantage the team has on the log, fans are very cautious because the race is still open and a repeat of 2012 is the last thing fans would want to experience.
If Gor Mahia retains the title, they will become only the fourth club to have won the KPL title back to back since the league was renamed.
Other teams that have won it back to back are Tusker, Ulinzi Stars. Gor Mahia will be crowned champions if they win their next three matches. Pending fixtures include those against Sofapaka, KRA, Mathare United and Muhoroni Youth.
